- Turn on the laptop, and connect the charger (the laptop is old so the battery drains fast).
- Connect power to the router and turn it on.
- Connect the laptop to the router via Ethernet.
- Connect the VTM Receiver to the laptop via USB, and then connect the VTM Receiver to power.
- Connect the controller to the laptop via USB.
- Power on the robot and check the following on the Main Controller Module:
-
Debug > Offline Mode
should be disabled. - Wi-Fi should be connected to "Stampede" (the SSID of our router).
- A video of the process can be found here.
-
- Start the Server and wait for a Chinese UI to open (this is the actual server).
- Launch the Server UI and choose a suitable resolution (this is a special client for controlling the server and starting matches etc.).
- Launch the Client and select 1920x1080 resolution (use an external monitor if needed).
- Make sure English is selected in the top-right corner, and then click the "Client".
- Wait for the VTM to connect -- a live camera feed will appear in the Client window.
- Check that all the lights in the lower left-hand corner are green (except RC, which is the controller).
- Once everything looks good and is connected, turn on the controller and begin testing (the RC light will turn green here).
- For the Client, you must use 1920x1080 resolution or else a lot of stuff won't work properly.
- If the Client crashes, simply try again until it works. This happens a lot, especially when launching.
- If the VTM isn't connecting properly, you can usually fix it by power cycling the VTM Receiver.
- To release your cursor from the client, press P to open an in-game menu. Alternatively, you can use the Windows key, Alt-Tab, Ctrl-Alt-Del, etc.
- You can check connectivity on the robot side via the Main Controller Module. If you press the circle once, it'll bring up a debug menu with useful information. You can use the arrows to scroll through and find the Wi-Fi and server connection status.
- You can check if the VTM Transmitter (on the robot) is connected by the LED on the side of it. This light will turn solid green when a connection is established.
