IXP Country Jedi Measurements

IXP country jedi is both a piece of software and a monthly measurement campaign that is performed using that software. The measurement campaign consists of a mesh of traceroutes between probes within the same country. For each ASN in the country 1 or 2 probes get selected (based on them being public, and if there are 3 or more the probes furthest and closest to the capital get selected) and a traceroute mesh between all these probes is performed.

The collection of measurement IDs for this can be extracted from: https://sg-pub.ripe.net/emile/ixp-country-jedi/ixp-country-jedi-confs.tgz

This file has a directory per month, per countrycode, that contains a file measurementset.json , this has the measurement ids for that particular run of the IXP country jedi.

This particular set of measurements was run by Emile Aben (Researcher at RIPE NCC), anybody could do their own custom set of measurements using the code available from here: https://github.com/emileaben/ixp-country-jedi

This data is useful for figuring out if traffic paths go via local IXPs, and if traffic paths stay local (ie. in country/city/region). The IXP country jedi code contains tooling to extract this type of information, and visualise it. More about this is available at: https://www.ripe.net/analyse/internet-measurements/ixp-country-jedi
