You find yourself in a dimly lit room of some kind. You have a vague memory of having fallen, but to your surprise find yourself sitting comfortably in a padded wooden chair. Lining the walls around you are shelves of books, while behind you a single large tomb stands on a pedestal, with a large quill next to it.

Before you is a hooded figure. Or, you realize with a flash of panic, an approximation of one. The figure is constructed out of small, writhing black tentacles. The tentacles themselves seem almost made of shadow, and yet the figure before you seems quite solid. When it speaks it makes no noise, but instead you hear the words echo in your mind.

You are confused my child. Allow me to offer assistance.

Still uncertain about where you are, or what kind of place this is, you decide to accept the offer.

You are in the Library, and I am the Librarian. This is but one of incalculable Libraries spread across the fabric of existence. You have come here seeking knowledge, and I am here to offer it.

There is a cost for my knowledge, however. Should you come across knowledge that is not contained in my vast store, you are beholden to add it. Simply open the tomb behind you and begin writing. Do not be afraid if your words change with time; others are adding to, correcting, or refining that knowledge. In return for this, I make everything available to you.

As the figure speaks, you find yourself relaxing. You sense you've heard of something like this before, but by a different name. Still, you find yourself confused on where to begin.
