Most Moodle course formats either display all topics on one page, or one topic per page, whereas the Multitopic format is designed to display multiple topics per page. It achieves this by having two types of sections: topics and pages. The Multitopic format is inspired by the Onetopic format, which provides tabs for navigating between pages, and the Multitopic format mainly aims to provide an appearance similar to what the Onetopic format looks like with default options, with the difference of supporting multiple topics per page. Topics can also be timed.
This document applies to the Multitopic format v3.0 and later. It is intended for teachers and administrators. It is divided into four sections, covering issues related to the Multitopic plugin as a whole, and Multitopic courses, pages, and topics. It assumes the reader is familiar with Moodle and the Topics/Custom sections format, and mainly focuses on things particular to the Multitopic format.
The Multitopic format is based on ideas from several other course formats, and notably includes code copied from:
- Onetopic format by David Herney Bernal García (including code for displaying tabs, disabling asychronous editing, and managing settings)
- Periods format by Marina Glancy (code for managing settings)
Several patches have been submitted by Jeremy FitzPatrick, notably including nesting the course index, and supporting drag and drop in Moodle 4.x.
Improvements have also been made possible by all the people who have reported bugs.
