@kzahel After about a year since I initially proposed turning Web Server for Chrome into an Electron app for macOS and Windows, and obtained your permission to use the "200 OK!" logo, I'm happy to say that the project, Simple Web Server, is nearly ready for release.

I have already released version 1.1.0 on the Microsoft Store and Mac App Store, although this version has a few issues that need to be resolved in a second release. The plan is to have the fixed release (1.1.1) out on both stores and the website (https://simplewebserver.org) within a week or two.

This PR adds a React UI card to the app that directs users on Windows and macOS to download Simple Web Server. Ethan and I would greatly appreciate if you could merge this PR and publish an update to the Chrome Web Store so that news of the new program reaches current Web Server for Chrome users. We would also appreciate if you could add a message to README.md and/or pin an issue so that people who visit the GitHub repo also hear about the new program.

Thank you very much for creating this app in the first place, and for your help notifying users about the the new program!

@kzahel I'm excited to share that Simple Web Server is now fully released on both stores and our website for direct download. We're now ready for users of Web Server for Chrome to switch to the new app. Do you think you could merge this pr and publish an update to the Chrome Web Store to help notify current users about the new program? We really appreciate your help, thanks!

It looks like support has been extended until 2025?
https://blog.chromium.org/2021/10/extending-chrome-app-support-on-chrome.html
So it looks to me that there is no rush to show users any message

I think that blog post is only talking about Chrome OS, which the new program doesn't support anyway. In this pr, Ethan made the message only show up when running on macOS or Windows, not for Chrome OS users. The last thing I read was that end of life for Chrome Apps on macOS and Windows was planned to happen next month (June 2022). It sounds to me like Chrome Apps are going to be dropped imminently from all platforms except Chrome OS. Let me know if you've heard something else, but otherwise do you think that you could merge this and publish a new release?

Would be great if there was a notice about an update/successor for this project. I am experiencing deprecation warnings every time I open web server chrome now... Super useful project, would love to continue using it.

@kzahel The newest version of Chrome shows this warning when trying to launch the app, making it clear that Chrome Apps will finally stop working in December 2022. That's two months away. If you're going to add a message pointing people to our new program, now is the time!

We would really appreciate if you could merge this PR and publish a release to add a message pointing users to Simple Web Server, which is available on the Microsoft Store and Mac App Store. This PR only adds a message for macOS and Windows users, not for users on Chrome OS (because as you mentioned, Web Server for Chrome will continue to work on Chrome OS until 2025).

It would also be great if you could add a message to README.md and/or pin an issue on GitHub. And perhaps add a message to the Chrome Web Store page too, if you're willing.

Thanks for your help letting users know about the new program!

@kzahel If you'd like to help folks find out about the new program, now is the time. Chrome Apps are going away for macOS and Windows next month. We would very much appreciate if you could follow through with adding a message to the app directing macOS and Windows users to the new program. Thank you very much!
