Introduction

On default you need multiple page trees to create a multilingual website in Contao 3, where each tree handles exactly 1 language. If you have many pages and languages it can become a lot of work to handle your content and to keep them in sync.

The i18nl10n extension lets you handle your content in an easier way.

The extensions assumes that

1. There is only one singe root page (no multiple domains/page trees)
2. The default language is defined on this root page
3. For each translated page there is a page in the default language
4. The option "Add language to URL" in the Contao "Front end configuration" is disabled (Use extension alternative)

This extension supports

1. Create content for multiple languages in one page tree
2. Unique alias for each language
3. A translation for title, page title, description and other values can be created for each defined language
4. Localized pages are created automatically when a new page is added to the page tree
5. With just one click localizations in the defined languages can be created for an existing page tree
6. The front end languages do not depend on the languages defined for the module
7. Each content element for articles can be attached to a certain or all languages
8. A front end module for language selection
9. Two front end templates o localize or localize and internationalize menus
10. Automatic language selection when opening website
11. Breadcrumbs are given in the selected language
12. Labels for Contao core elements are translated automatically in front end

This extension is not suitable

1. If multiple domains or page trees for each languages are needed. In this case use the default Contao system.

Using the extension

To manage your multilingual website with i18nl10n you need to install and setup the extension first. Next, it makes sense to create a language switch and choose the desired navigation template for your front end to check your translations while creating them. The you need to create localizations for your pages, contents and, if needed, news.
