Etiquette
The server rules are a simple set of inviolable commandments which are absolutely required. Violating them will get you removed from the whitelist.
However, there are a number of less absolute customs, assumptions, and norms which have naturally arisen among players on the server. Following these will make the game more enjoyable for you and others. Violations are frowned upon, but if players genuinely make an effort to abide by them, the occasional slip is no big deal.
Be considerate of other players.
There's a pretty wide variety of people who play on this server from teens to retirees, and from video game novices to experts. Please bring your best manners, be kind to other players, and save the trash-talk for another server. Encourage and assist new players to learn the game and the mods.
Be sensitive to other players who don't feel like chatting. Some people come to unwind after a long work day, and aren't up for much socializing. Others don't type very fast, and it's hard for them to carry on a conversation. Whatever their reasons, if someone isn't responding to your attempts to chat, just let them be.
If you see that another player is sleeping, sleep as soon as possible.
Middle Earth has many dangerous areas which become even more dangerous at night. Sleeping promptly can be a life-or-death issue for other players. Please keep a Sleeping Bag on you at all times so that you can sleep right away when you see the orange message showing another player is sleeping. If you find yourself unable to sleep immediately, please log off for a minute or so to allow the night to pass.
Mark and protect your base with a banner.
The Lord of the Rings Mod adds a Banner object which is cheap to make, and which prohibits other players from disturbing things within a certain radius. Once you have found a place to settle down, please put up a banner right away. This prevents people from accidentally assuming your place is deserted and looting it.
Bring conflicts to a Moderator on Discord; do not seek private retribution.
If you have any kind of grievance with another player, please try to settle it maturely with them in game. If you feel that effort is not working, take it up by private message with a Moderator on the Discord channel. Do not attack or grief another player because you feel annoyed with them: that is a violation of server rules and is grounds for banning.
Settle down near a "dead-end" waypoint.
It is very convenient to locate yourself near a waypoint at the end of a road. These are located far enough away from one another that you won't disturb other players' creations, and you'll have a convenient way to allow visitors to fast-travel to your base. If you see a place you'd like to "claim", ask in Discord to make sure no on else has already done so.
Set a nickname on Discord which matches your in-game name.
This helps avoid confusion, and allows players to find one another easily in either environment.
Feel free to offer free stuff or trades on Discord.
If you have something useful you would like to give away or trade, feel free to post it on the Discord channel! Likewise, if you're looking for something, and would be willing to trade for it, feel free to ask about that on Discord as well.
