Traveling
Horses
Middle Earth is a very big place, and you'll want to secure some kind of transportation better than your own two feet right away. Starting from the Shire, you're best option will be the slow and sure Shire pony which can be found all around. You can craft your own saddle, or just keep your eyes open to snag one from the Hobbits (they won't mind "lending" it to you). Unfortunately, Shire ponies cannot wear armor.
Once you leave the Shire, you'll start to find full-size horses out in the wild. These are often (but not always) faster than ponies, and can be equipped with armor. Different races prioritize horse breeding differently, so you may find big difference between the horses you find in different parts of the world. The men of Rohan are famous for the quality of their horses, but they are also famously protective of them!
However, you're not limited to horses for riding! If you travel far enough to the south, you'll find vast deserts which require alternate forms of transportation...
Boats
The vanilla boat is available, but remember that this is a 1.7.10 modpack, so your boat is little better than an eggshell. However, as a budding wizard, you may find better options as your magical research progresses...
Teleportation
The LotR Mod offers a robust "fast travel" system whereby you can teleport to fixed location throughout Middle Earth. However, you can only travel to waypoints in regions you've already visited. To open up new territories, you'll want to fast travel to the waypoint nearest the borders of the new land you wish to explore, and travel by other means until you cross the border. From there, you'll be able to fast travel to other waypoints in that territory. Press L
to open the LotR menu, and select the map to explore your options.
Magical Devices
In the course of your magical researches, you will want to give some careful thought to the problem of getting around. It should be possible to develop magical artifacts which allow you faster travel by land, sea, and air with enough research!
Players are confined to the realm of Arda since all magical portals and devices back to the vanilla Minecraft dimensions are disabled. All the resources you need should be available there, including those normally found in The Nether or The End (see: Finding Resources).
